Udaipur for Couples: A Romantic Getaway in the City of Lakes
Marble palaces rising from still water, the Aravalli hills glowing at dusk and candlelit rooftop terraces — Udaipur was made for couples. It is compact, walkable and calm compared with most Indian cities.
Why Udaipur works for couples
The old city wraps around Lake Pichola, so many of the best experiences are just a short walk apart. Evenings are the highlight: the light softens, the ghats fill with music and every rooftop becomes a dinner spot with a view.
A two-day romantic itinerary
- Day 1 morning: City Palace complex and the Jagdish Temple.
- Day 1 evening: sunset boat ride on Lake Pichola, then dinner at a lakeside rooftop.
- Day 2 morning: Saheliyon-ki-Bari gardens and Fateh Sagar Lake.
- Day 2 evening: sunset from the Monsoon Palace (Sajjangarh) followed by a cultural dance show at Bagore ki Haveli.
Choosing a lake-view room
Lake-view rooms are the most requested in the city and sell out first during wedding season (November to February). When comparing, check whether the view is from the room itself or only from a shared terrace, and look for couple friendly properties with good privacy reviews.
When to visit
September to March is ideal. Right after the monsoon the lakes are full and the hills are green — arguably the most beautiful time of the year.
